Description

Stained glass windows in churches and other significant buildings are a unique art form and craft conceived to communicate narratives drawn from the Bible, history or literature. The purpose of the stained glass windows is to have natural light illuminate coloured or stained glass as a means to communicate core truths associated with traditions, beliefs, values and spirituality. The message of stained glass windows may be thematic or may represent saints or patrons, or use symbolic motifs.
It is through the simple and beautiful language of symbols, that the outward and visible form reveals the inward and invisible reality that moves and directs the soul of a person. Christian symbolism expresses the universality of this unspoken language. In this manner divine truth is recognized and a deeper insight is given to a persons ability to understand God's presence in all creation.
The stained glass windows in Little Flower Roman Catholic church were designed and manufactured by Rault Freres, of Rennes, France, and installed by Burns Hanley Co. Ltd. of Regina, Saskatchewan Canada. To complete the installation of stained glass in the windows, it was necessary to make 68 panels. Of these, 34 are uniform, diamond shaped panels. These alternate with 34 panels which depict different mysteries and doctrines of the Catholic Faith in the form of symbols. It is interesting to note, with the exception of the main window of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, the overall theme of the windows is loosely based upon the Litany of the Holy Name of Jesus and the Loreto Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
